Technological Literacy

Technological literacy is a course I teach for 9th graders that meets once a week for about 12 weeks. The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with concepts and vocabulary that they will encounter in their academic journey as well as their everyday lives using online tools and social media.

Additionally, since I teach this course at a girls’ school, an additional goal is to have our students gain confidence in a subject that they are, as a demographic, often shut out of and made to feel incompetent in. By formally introducing these terms and concepts, they will feel more empowered to research and engage in conversations about protecting themselves in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

We cover subjects such as local and cloud storage, computer parts, web cookies, basic privacy and security, AI, social media, and manipulative digital design. Feel free to use or build on my materials with attribution.
